This plant is characterized by its striking dark green leaves with bold, zebra-like stripes of light green. The underside of the leaves is a deep purple colour, adding to its unique appearance. Calathea zebrina is known for its ability to fold its leaves upwards at night, resembling praying hands, and then unfurl them again in the morning.

  • Lighting: Place in a spot with bright, indirect light to prevent leaf burn.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity levels, mist the leaves regularly or use a pebble tray to increase humidity.
  • Temperature: Keep in a warm environment with temperatures between 18-24 degrees Celsius.
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
